YES Bank FD interest rates: the six-month window that pays 7.25%
YES Bank pays 7.25% only from 18 months 1 day to under 24 months, 7.75% for seniors, who also pay no closure penalty. The cliffs and the closure maths.
YES Bank’s fixed deposit schedule, effective 2 June 2026, pays its highest general rate of 7.25% on deposits of 18 months and one day up to, but not including, 24 months. Senior citizens get 7.75% on that window and again on three years to under five, because the bank’s uplift rises from 0.50 to 0.75 percentage point at 36 months; there is no separate column for depositors aged 80 and above. Nothing longer than two years pays the general public more: 7.00% runs to five years and 6.75% from five to ten.
The FD interest rates in YES Bank below were read on 10 September 2026 from the bank’s own “interest rate at a quick glance” card, a PDF on its .bank.in domain, and apply to resident domestic term deposits below ₹3 crore. Confirm the rate on the booking screen; the effective date on the card is the one that controls.

Adjacent rows priced identically are collapsed here; the card itself prints 18 rows, four of them — 12 months, 18 months, 35 months and 60 months — written as a single exact tenure. Beside each rate it also prints an annualised yield on quarterly compounding, 7.45% against the 7.25% rate at the peak: the same deposit described differently, not a better one.
The same card gives the savings rate, effective 7 April 2026, as 2.50% on daily balances below ₹25 lakh and 3.50% from ₹25 lakh to under ₹100 crore. A 7-to-14-day deposit pays 0.75 percentage point more than the savings balance it came from, and locks the money for the privilege.
Four exact tenures, and where the cliffs are
Twelve months exactly is a step: 364 days pays 6.50%, the anniversary 6.65%, the day after it 6.75%. Eighteen months exactly sits on the wrong side of the biggest cliff on the card, 6.75% against 7.25% one day later; on ₹5,00,000 held for eighteen months that day is worth about ₹3,750 in simple interest. Thirty-five months exactly is a dip to 6.90%, and the card gives no reason for it. Sixty months exactly is priced with the years after it: 6.75%, against 7.00% at four years and 364 days.
The sharpest cliff is not at an exact tenure at all. It is at 181 days, where the rate jumps from 4.75% to 6.00%. The card’s own note defines six months as 181 days, so a deposit booked as “six months” lands on the right side of it and one booked as 180 days does not; on ₹5,00,000 over 181 days the difference is about ₹3,100.
For anything under a year the bank asks for the tenure in days and works out the actual count at booking. Where a tenure is entered as months plus days, the days component is capped at 27, so a deposit meant to mature the day before the second anniversary has to be keyed as a count of days.
Our comparison of FD interest rates across major banks tracks seven of them; YES Bank is not yet a row there, so read this page against it.
Nothing longer than two years pays more
A ten-year deposit is priced 50 basis points below the peak — ₹2,500 a year on ₹5,00,000 — for a commitment five times as long.
The senior curve has a second summit: 7.75% on the 18-month window and 7.75% again from three years to under five, with 7.50% in the gap between them — except at exactly 35 months, where the senior rate dips to 7.40% — and 7.50% from five years onwards.
So the real choice is between a rolling series of 23-month deposits at 7.25% and a single five-year deposit at 7.00% — or, for a senior, between four years and 364 days at 7.75% and five years at 7.50%. The series pays more and takes the risk of whatever rate exists on each renewal date.
Maturity, and the fortnight after it
YES Bank’s booking form offers three maturity instructions — renew principal and interest, renew principal and pay out the interest, or do not renew. Where none is recorded, the policy renews the deposit for a similar period at the rate ruling on the maturity date; tax-saver deposits and deposits booked without a premature-withdrawal option are excluded and simply fall due.
A renewal request received within 14 days of maturity is honoured from the maturity date, at the rate applicable on the due date. After 14 days, the overdue period earns the savings rate or the contracted rate, whichever is lower, and the same rule applies to matured proceeds left unclaimed. On a 7.25% deposit, missing the fourteen-day line drops the whole overdue period to 2.50%, not just the days after the fourteenth. A renewed deposit must also run at least seven days from the request to earn anything.
Interest is reckoned at quarterly rests, with deposits under three months and any incomplete final quarter worked out on actual days over a 365-day year, or 366 in a leap year. Deposits of six months or less earn simple interest paid at maturity, cumulative deposits are available only from six months and one day, and a monthly payout is paid at a discounted rate. Use the FD calculator with the tenure in days to see the maturity value either side of a cliff.
Breaking it early: the rate is rebuilt, then the penalty comes off
Two things happen in sequence, and the policy is explicit about the first. On premature withdrawal, interest is paid at the rate that applied on the date of deposit for the period the money actually stayed — the run-period rate — not the contracted rate; on a partial withdrawal, only the amount withdrawn is repriced. The penalty then comes off that rebuilt rate: for deposits below ₹5 crore booked or renewed on or after 3 November 2023, 0.75 percentage point where the completed tenure is 181 days or less and 1.00 percentage point from 182 days. It applies to partial as well as full withdrawals and to amounts swept in from a linked account; deposits of ₹5 crore and above stay on a flat 0.25.
Take ₹5,00,000 booked in the 7.25% window and closed on day 200. The run period falls in the 181-to-271-day bucket, which pays 6.00%; the completed tenure is past 181 days, so the penalty is 1.00 percentage point; the deposit earns 5.00%, or about ₹13,700. Left alone, the same 200 days at the contracted rate would have earned about ₹19,900. Of the ₹6,164 gap, the penalty accounts for about ₹2,740 and the rebuild for about ₹3,425 — the part nobody advertises is the larger part. Both use simple interest, which the bank applies at this tenure in any case.
Three rules sit alongside that mechanism:
- Senior citizens pay no penalty on deposits booked or renewed on or after 16 May 2022, and staff none from 10 May 2021. The rebuild still applies: in the example a senior would receive the 6.50% senior rate for 181 to 271 days, about ₹17,800, and the whole ₹3,425 shortfall against 7.75% is the rebuild. That assumes the bank reads the senior column for the run period, which the card does not spell out.
- Only one withdrawal from a deposit, full or partial, is processed on any one day.
- Deposits can be closed online except tax-saver deposits, floating-rate deposits and deposits booked without a closure option. A premature renewal is repriced the same way and may carry the penalty; unlike some banks, the policy offers no waiver for renewing into a longer deposit — it does not mention one at all.
If the need for cash is temporary, the policy provides for a loan or overdraft against the deposit, which keeps the contracted rate alive; neither this card nor the deposit policy publishes the margin, so ask. Our page on a loan against an FD sets out when it beats closure.
Seniors, and the missing 80-plus column
YES Bank’s uplift is not a flat half-point.
| Tenure | Uplift over the general rate |
|---|---|
| 7 days to under 36 months | +0.50 percentage point |
| 36 months to 120 months | +0.75 percentage point |
| Any tenure, depositor aged 80 or above | No separate band; the senior rate applies |
The extra quarter-point from 36 months is worth about ₹3,750 on ₹5,00,000 over three years, and it is why the senior peak of 7.75% appears twice. Where other banks print a super-senior band, YES Bank does not; our page on senior citizen FD rates shows which banks do and by how much.
The senior rate is for domestic deposits only: in the policy’s words, the additional interest for senior citizens and staff is not available on NRE, NRO, RFC and FCNR deposits. A depositor who turns 60 during the deposit is offered the higher rate only at renewal. And the policy is silent on deposits held by a Hindu Undivided Family whose karta is a senior citizen, so do not assume the uplift reaches them.
None of that makes a YES Bank deposit the first home for retirement money. The Senior Citizens Savings Scheme pays 8.2% for the quarter ending 30 September 2026, sovereign, with a quarterly payout, a ₹30 lakh ceiling and entry from age 60 — 0.45 percentage point above the bank’s best senior rate. Exhaust the scheme you qualify for first.
What the card does not price
Non-callable, tax-saver, green and floating-rate deposits all exist at YES Bank; none has a published schedule below ₹3 crore on the quick-glance card.
- The tax-saver deposit is on the booking form. Whatever rate applies, it is locked for five years and excluded from automatic renewal. The deduction it buys exists only under the old tax regime.
- Deposits without a premature-withdrawal option are referred to in the form and the policy, with no rate published below ₹3 crore; above that the card is silent on domestic deposits altogether, and only sends non-resident depositors of ₹3 crore and above to a branch. Green Deposits are defined in the policy and priced nowhere in the public documents.
- The Floating Rate Fixed Deposit pays the repo rate plus a mark-up, reset monthly to the repo rate at the previous month-end (the annexure’s rule), against a repo rate the card puts at 5.25% effective 1 January 2026 in its savings-account note. RBI raised the repo rate to 5.50% on 8 October 2026, and under the month-end reset rule a floating deposit picks that up from its November reset. The mark-up is set at booking rather than published. It is closed to non-residents and carries its own, heavier penalty ladder: 3.00 percentage points for 7 to 90 days, 2.50 for 91 to 181, 2.00 from 182 days to under a year and 1.00 from one year to under three, applied inside the first year to the lower of the one-year rate and the contracted rate.
The recurring deposit schedule, dated the same day, follows the same shape: 7.25% on a 21-month RD, 7.00% from 24 months to under five years and 6.75% from five years.
Tax takes the next bite
FD interest is taxable at your slab rate as income from other sources, in the year it accrues, whether or not the bank has paid it out. A cumulative deposit in the 7.25% window runs past at least one 31 March and is taxed across two financial years, sometimes three.
YES Bank deducts tax at source once interest across all your deposits at the bank crosses ₹50,000 in a financial year, or ₹1,00,000 for a resident senior citizen — 10% where PAN is on record and 20% where it is not. The thresholds are bank-wide, so splitting one deposit into four at the same bank changes nothing.
Where you have no tax liability, the declaration that stops the deduction is Form 121, which replaced Forms 15G and 15H from 1 April 2026. The bank’s April 2026 policy and January 2026 booking form still name the superseded forms, so expect the paperwork to lag the law; the test is stricter than most people assume, since both age groups need nil estimated liability and total income below the basic exemption limit. Our guide to tax on FD interest covers the thresholds, the declaration and the accrual rule.
At 7.25% before tax, a depositor in the 30% slab keeps about 5.0% after cess. That number, not 7.25%, is the one to compare with anything else.
Insurance stops at ₹5 lakh per depositor per bank
The bank was placed under a moratorium by a Central Government order on 5 March 2020, and the Reserve Bank framed a scheme of reconstruction for it under section 45 of the Banking Regulation Act, in which State Bank of India expressed its willingness to invest.
Deposit insurance does not distinguish between that history and any other. Cover is ₹5 lakh per depositor per bank, for principal and accrued interest together, in the same right and capacity, after lawful set-off — the same figure at every insured bank. At 7.25% a ₹5,00,000 deposit crosses the limit almost at once, because accrued interest counts; to keep a 23-month deposit’s maturity value inside it, the principal has to be capped at roughly ₹4.35 lakh — our arithmetic on the card’s rate and compounding, not a figure either institution states. Every savings balance, recurring deposit and other FD at the bank aggregates into the same ₹5 lakh, and above the cover you are an unsecured creditor at any bank. Joint accounts, capacities and claim timing are in our page on DICGC deposit insurance.
Before you book
| If the money is needed in | The bucket that fits | General rate | The trap next to it |
|---|---|---|---|
| Under 45 days | 15–45 days | 3.50% | 7–14 days pays 3.25%; the savings account pays 2.50% |
| Three to six months | 91–180 days | 4.75% | 181 days pays 6.00% — book six months as 181 days, not 180 |
| Six to nine months | 181–271 days | 6.00% | 180 days pays 4.75% |
| About a year | 12 months 1 day to 18 months | 6.75% | 12 months exactly pays 6.65%; 364 days pays 6.50% |
| Eighteen months to two years | 18 months 1 day to under 24 months | 7.25% | 18 months exactly pays 6.75%; 24 months exactly pays 7.00% |
| Two to five years | 24 months to under 60 months | 7.00% | 35 months exactly pays 6.90%; seniors get 7.75% only from 36 months |
| Five years or more | 60 to 120 months | 6.75% | Priced 50 basis points below a 23-month deposit |
Set the tenure in days, read the maturity date on the confirmation screen, and give the maturity instruction at booking rather than in the fortnight after — missing the fourteen-day line reprices the whole overdue period at the savings rate. Check the customer category on the deposit advice before you accept it: the policy says a depositor who turns 60 during the deposit gets the higher rate only at renewal, and it says nothing about correcting a booking made in the wrong category.
Common questions
Does a longer YES Bank fixed deposit pay more?
No. On the schedule effective 2 June 2026 the general-public peak is 7.25%, paid only on deposits of 18 months and one day up to, but not including, 24 months. From two years the rate drops to 7.00%, dips to 6.90% at exactly 35 months, returns to 7.00% until five years, and falls to 6.75% from five years to ten. A ten-year deposit is priced 50 basis points below a 23-month one. Senior citizens see a second 7.75% summit from three years to under five, because their uplift widens to 0.75 percentage point at 36 months, but even they get less from five years onwards.
Is 18 months the same as 18 months and one day at YES Bank?
No, and it is the widest single-day gap on the card. Exactly 18 months is priced with the band before it, at 6.75% for the general public and 7.25% for a senior citizen. Eighteen months and one day is priced at 7.25% and 7.75%. On ₹5,00,000 held for eighteen months, that one day is worth roughly ₹3,750 in simple interest. Enter the tenure in days on the booking screen rather than as a round number of months, and read the maturity date on the confirmation before you accept it.
Do senior citizens pay a penalty for closing a YES Bank FD early?
Not on deposits booked or renewed on or after 16 May 2022; YES Bank's rate card states that the penalty is nil for senior citizens from that date, and nil for staff from 10 May 2021. Everyone else pays 0.75 percentage point where the completed tenure is 181 days or less and 1.00 percentage point from 182 days. The exemption removes the penalty only. The deposit is still repriced to the rate that applied, on the day it was booked, to the period it actually stayed, so a senior closing a 7.75% deposit on day 200 receives the 6.50% rate for 181 to 271 days, not 7.75%.
What does a depositor aged 80 or above get at YES Bank?
The same as a depositor aged 60. YES Bank publishes two columns, Regular and Senior Citizen, and no super-senior band at all. The senior uplift is 0.50 percentage point on every tenure below 36 months and 0.75 percentage point from 36 months to ten years, so the best an 80-plus depositor can book is 7.75%, on either the 18-month-and-one-day window or a deposit of three years to under five. Where an 80-plus band matters, it is at banks that print one; here the age threshold that changes anything is 60, and it must be reached before the deposit is booked or renewed.
Is a YES Bank fixed deposit insured like one at State Bank of India?
Yes, on identical terms. Deposit insurance covers principal and accrued interest together up to ₹5 lakh per depositor per bank, in the same right and capacity, after any lawful set-off, and the figure is the same at every insured bank regardless of size or ownership. It is not ₹5 lakh per deposit, per branch or per app, and every savings balance, recurring deposit and other fixed deposit you hold at YES Bank counts towards the same limit. Above ₹5 lakh you are an unsecured creditor at any bank, which is an argument for spreading money across banks rather than for or against this one.
